Thanksgiving!

Our break was great this year. Jeff and I packed up our car on Tuesday night last week and then when we got off of work on Wednesday at 9:30 pm we ran home and picked up our two cats and our parakeet and began our trip to Denver. It was actually really pleasant driving in the dark. No bright sun in your eyes, barely anyone else on the road. We arrived at my family’s new house around 7 am. The cats did great in the car.

We had a blast while we were there! Dinner was great that night. Ben and Jeff had fun playing Ben’s Xbox, Elicia and I made twin purses (have to get pictures of those later), and we all went on walks together and watched fun movies.

Elicia and I watched Home Makeover on Sunday night. That was a treat! Grandma Farmer sent Elicia a shirt from when the show was in Logan and she loved it. I was jealous. I got my computer fixed, Keef learned to walk on his leash (he does GREAT for a cat), and Vash suffered many bouts of friendliness. Turkey sandwiches were loved by all.

We even had some fun taping the two cats’ legs together with some scotch tape. It was pretty entertaining, the way Vash scrambled down the stairs while Keef dragged along on his legs.

The trip home was not so much fun. We hit a bad storm around Rock Springs in Wyoming. Visibility was terrible. It happened to be my “shift” (Jeff and I switch off every two or three hours so the other can rest) and I am TERRIBLE at driving in the snow. I hit one of those bumpy things on the side of the road (the ones that make the car vibrate) and instead of correcting nice and slow, I corrected it just like there was no snow. We spun all over the place and ended up in the ditch on the right side. Barely missed a marker pole too! It was so scary for me. Jeff took over from there and we drove the 80 miles to Evanston at about 20 miles an hour. Semis went faster than we did, but I made Jeff go slow.

We were tired by then and we stopped at a Best Western for the night. That was fun because a lot of people stopped too, had their dogs and cats and everything around the grounds. We stayed inside because it was so cold. It was expensive, but better than being stuck in the cold with low gas. We had some Arby’s for dinner after settling in and the cats enjoyed sniffing everything. Then we called work and said we might be late because we were snowed in and stayed up til 4 am watching Animal Planet.

The next morning I stole stuff from the room and we packed up and left. We made it back to the valley in great weather and just in time to be only 10 minutes late for our shift at work. We dropped the cats and bird and other baggage at home and went to work.

We miss being in Denver already. That may or may not be because we didn’t have to work, pay bills, or cook while we were there… but we miss the fam too! It was a great trip but just not long enough.

Forced Retirement

It seems that I am now unemployed by Hogi Yogi. It is demanded that I take a break. Granted, I was a little tired of working two jobs and having no time for school as it was, but we really were blessed to have such an easy job that paid for our rent. Anyway, Hogi Yogi is closing next Saturday. Monday is my last day. The renters wanted my boss, Steve, to pay $6000 in rent a month, and he doesn’t want to pay it. He is thinking about moving the store to a new location, but he doesn’t know when or where that will happen, so I’m not even sure I’d be able to be on hiatus until it reopens. For now, I am just considering myself officially, one-jobbed.

Jeff bought a gift for me for our anniversary. He said that I could have it when it arrived rather than waiting until the 22nd next month, so I waited on baited breath for a week. Today was the day it was to arrive. We even posted a pre-signed sheet on the door to be sure the deliverer left it on the porch. When I returned from work at noon, we didn’t see it there. Checking the FedEx website, we learned they had tried to deliver it but decided no one was home (Jeff was home all morning, and he was awake). So we had to go down to the FedEx building at 5 (during our lunch break) to pick it up. I had a suspicion the night before what it was.

I’m so happy! On the back, Jeff had it engraved “Dianna and Jeff forever 12/22/2005″ It’s so cute and little and sits happily in it’s dock.

joy.

Winter is Coming…

Jeff and I prepared for hibernation today…

Cleaned out the closet and made room for wintery clothes. Been meaning to get rid of a lot of these things since… 9th grade!

Also, we moved our computers and our big TV into the bedroom. The gaming systems came downstairs too – swapped out the 13 inch for the… big inch. That’s where all the heat is in this house, regardless of our oil coil heater thing in the hall.

In other news, I scrubbed our tub down yesterday, for the first time since we’ve lived here. Gross, right? I can’t believe the dirt in that stupid thing. Should have taken before/after pics.

Fourish weeks until school is over! Yay! English is stupid. Current assignment is to set up a blog and write an essay on it about what I want to blog about. What the crap kind of ENGLISH assignment is that? I’d really rather be reading literature and learning grammar and stuff. She gives us this assignment as if writing in a blog is a new idea. Gorsh.

I’m really tired, so I am off to bed now.

New Interesting Knowledge

Apparently, Keef is losing his baby teeth.

Jeff found this one on our bed. I didn’t know they had baby teeth. Makes us wonder where Vash’s are. Laying around the house?

Yup, it’s a lazy cat kind of day.

Unfortunately, only so in cat world.

Today I began the day by staying up until 2 AM working on a psychology paper I stupidly put off until three days before the due date. After sleeping for three and a half hours (ish), I got up to get to work at Hogi Yogi. Worked the 8 – 1:30 shift, making and delivering sandwiches to three local schools. Spring Creek gives me breadsticks on Mondays and Wednesdays. They are to die for.

Hogi Yogi has been depressing lately and I am wondering how much longer I want to be employed there. With our debt becoming smaller and smaller every two weeks, Jeff and I are starting to discuss when I should quit. Alas, Hogi Yogi is the one I like best. I dislike sitting on a computer all day. Unfortunately, wasting away in a small cubicle pays much better.

Two weeks until Thanksgiving trip to Denver. Thank heaven, I need to get out of here.

Worked from 2 – 9:30 at second ridiculous job. Went very very fast, so not a big deal. Jeff got yelled at for using his cell. Ha, ha.

Came home and had 2 hours to finish essay. Completed it with 10 minutes to spare. Not a bad job, but not expecting a grade above D.

Now I am trying to choke down a chewy cold chunk thing that Carrie gave me. Supposed to be really good on colds. I have been sneezing all day.

Off to bed.

Busy, busy

A quick post to update everyone. I am BUSY! That is why I am not writing stuff any more. Jeff and I have this intensive essay which is due tomorrow, which we stupidly put off until three days before it is to be submitted. I actually am really interested in the subject material; we kept a journal for six weeks regarding the frequency with which we experience anger, jealousy, guilt and shame, and learned the triggers for these emotions. Now we are researching the “whys”. It’s really interesting stuff, but with two jobs and other various lame courses I have to keep track of, I spaced it all until this weekend. We’re cramming like crazy and I expect to get a lousy score on it. I just hope it doesn’t cause me to fail, as I hate having to pay for the course if I end up taking it a second time.

Today we visited the Carters in Morgan. It was great to see them. Grandma made us some delicious chicken casserole, which is the kind my mother made at home. I loved it. Great cranberry-orange muffins, some cheesecake.. we were pampered. I left with a painting my dad did of me as a kid. Rockin!

Keef scared the heck out of me while we were there. There is a little sunroom off their living room, separated by a some window-type walls, and he tried to jump up on the very small window seal and smacked flat into the glass right next to where I was sitting. It scared me so bad I jumped out of my seat.

As far as I know, Mel did not have her baby today. Drat. I lost the bet.

Back to studying!
