Our break was great this year. Jeff and I packed up our car on Tuesday night last week and then when we got off of work on Wednesday at 9:30 pm we ran home and picked up our two cats and our parakeet and began our trip to Denver. It was actually really pleasant driving in the dark. No bright sun in your eyes, barely anyone else on the road. We arrived at my family’s new house around 7 am. The cats did great in the car.
We had a blast while we were there! Dinner was great that night. Ben and Jeff had fun playing Ben’s Xbox, Elicia and I made twin purses (have to get pictures of those later), and we all went on walks together and watched fun movies.
Elicia and I watched Home Makeover on Sunday night. That was a treat! Grandma Farmer sent Elicia a shirt from when the show was in Logan and she loved it. I was jealous. I got my computer fixed, Keef learned to walk on his leash (he does GREAT for a cat), and Vash suffered many bouts of friendliness. Turkey sandwiches were loved by all.
We even had some fun taping the two cats’ legs together with some scotch tape. It was pretty entertaining, the way Vash scrambled down the stairs while Keef dragged along on his legs.
The trip home was not so much fun. We hit a bad storm around Rock Springs in Wyoming. Visibility was terrible. It happened to be my “shift” (Jeff and I switch off every two or three hours so the other can rest) and I am TERRIBLE at driving in the snow. I hit one of those bumpy things on the side of the road (the ones that make the car vibrate) and instead of correcting nice and slow, I corrected it just like there was no snow. We spun all over the place and ended up in the ditch on the right side. Barely missed a marker pole too! It was so scary for me. Jeff took over from there and we drove the 80 miles to Evanston at about 20 miles an hour. Semis went faster than we did, but I made Jeff go slow.
We were tired by then and we stopped at a Best Western for the night. That was fun because a lot of people stopped too, had their dogs and cats and everything around the grounds. We stayed inside because it was so cold. It was expensive, but better than being stuck in the cold with low gas. We had some Arby’s for dinner after settling in and the cats enjoyed sniffing everything. Then we called work and said we might be late because we were snowed in and stayed up til 4 am watching Animal Planet.
The next morning I stole stuff from the room and we packed up and left. We made it back to the valley in great weather and just in time to be only 10 minutes late for our shift at work. We dropped the cats and bird and other baggage at home and went to work.
We miss being in Denver already. That may or may not be because we didn’t have to work, pay bills, or cook while we were there… but we miss the fam too! It was a great trip but just not long enough.
